Simon Baker
Associate Sound Designer

 

Simon graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1992. For three years he held the post of sound supervisor at the National Theatre and in 1999 he joined Autograph Sound Recording Ltd. Today Autograph are a leading British sound design and equipment hire company, responsible for numerous theatre productions at home and abroad, including Les Misérables, Cats, The Lion King, Mamma Mia!, We Will Rock You, Miss Saigon, My Fair Lady and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

His sound design credits, whilst at the National Theatre, include Closer, The Cripple of Inishmaan, King Lear, Othello, Blinded by the Sun, Blue Remembered Hills, Mutability, The Day I Stood Still and Copenhagen. Other work includes The Way You Look Tonight (Druid Theatre), Gangster No 1 (Almeida), Closer (Lyric), The Old Neighbourhood (Royal Court) and Wind in the Willows (Old Vic). He also designed Copenhagen (Duchess) and Closer (New York). Simon was the associate sound designer on the London productions of Rent and The Witches of Eastwick.

He sound designed The Caretaker for Patrick Marber, Feelgood (Garrick), Closer to Heaven (Arts), 125th Street (Shaftesbury), The Duchess of Malfi (National Theatre), The Play What I Wrote (West End, UK tours and Broadway) and Jailhouse Rock. He co-designed On Your Toes (Royal Festival Hall) with Terry Jardine and is associate designer on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (London Palladium).

Forthcoming projects include sound designer on The Play What I Wrote UK tour and The Lord of the Rings musical in 2005.
