Assistant Lighting Designer
James Whiteside graduated from the University of Birmingham in 1999.
Eecent theatre credits as lighting designer include: Calamity Jane at the Shaftesbury Theatre; Snow White and The Gruffalo at the New Victory Theater, Off-Broadway; Dick Barton, Skin Deep and Queer Counsel at the Warehouse Theatre, Croydon; The Singing Group and The Coffee Lover's Guide to America at the Chelsea Theatre; Blood Royal at the King's Head; Best Mates and Urban Voices for RNT Education; Tango in the City at the Lilian Baylis and the 2003 tour of Art, based on the original lighting.
Opera credits includes: Maria De Buenos Aires in Norwich, Bath and Buxton; HMS Pinafore for Carl Rosa Opera, directed by Timothy West; Madam Butterfly on a US tour for London City Opera; La Traviata for Surrey Opera; Maschinist Hopkins at the Queen Elizabeth Hall; Sweeney Agonistes and Soap Opera for Trinity College of Music; and Matins for the Virgin of Guadalupe at BAC and the Cheltenham Festival.
James has assisted Hugh Vanstone on a tour of Godspell and Hartley TA Kemp on A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Sheffield Crucible. He recently revived Howard Harrison's lighting for the Royal Opera's I Masnadieri at the Teatro Comunale, Bologna.
Forthcoming lighting designs include the stage adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer's novel Everything Is Illuminated and a new play, Freshly Ground.
