ASSISTED PERFORMANCES

Assisted performances are regularly scheduled at Mary Poppins including Audio Described, Sign Interpreted and Stage Captioned performances. Further information on applicable dates is contained in the relevant sections below. Please note that it is advisable to book for these performances well in advance as tickets are subject to availability.

Facilities for people with visual impairments

Audio Described Performances are regularly scheduled at Mary Poppins. Audio description in theatre is a live verbal commentary on the visual elements of a production, delivered as a performance unfolds, through a discreet headset. One week before the performance, every visually impaired person who has pre-booked will receive a tape with detailed information on the production, such as sets and costumes. This tape also provides details on how to get to the theatre and orientation around it.

To enquire about dates and ticket availability for future performances call the Access Department on 0870 850 9174 or email access@delmack.co.uk.

Up to two guide dogs are allowed in the auditorium per performance. Alternatively the designated Front of House access attendant can look after your dog if this is more convenient. Please advise staff when booking if you intend to bring a guide dog.

Assisted Hearing Facilities

Sign Interpreted performances are regularly scheduled at Mary Poppins and the following dates are currently on offer -

Thursday 23rd November 2006 at 7.30pm
Saturday 12th May 2007 at 2.30pm

Throughout the performance, a qualified theatre sign interpreter stands on the left of the stage and uses sign language to relay music and words to deaf and hearing impaired patrons, all of whom are seated within easy viewing distance of both the stage and interpreter.

To enquire about ticket availability for any of these performances call the Access Department on 0870 850 9174 or email access@delmack.co.uk.

Stage Captioned performances are also often scheduled at Mary Poppins. The following date is currently on offer:

Tuesday 9th January 2007 at 7.30pm

For information and future applicable dates please contact the access department as above. Captioning converts the spoken word into text, which is displayed on a caption unit viewed by the audience. As the captions roll, (delivered live, from a laptop computer by a trained captioner), audience members can follow what is said, when it is said and by whom. Sound effects and off-stage noises are also included.

The theatre has an infra-red loop system for people with hearing impairments. There are up to twenty headsets available from the foyer kiosk for a £5 refundable deposit.
