EDUCATION PROGRAMME

An exciting new Teaching Resource Pack has been developed for Mary Poppins, to give teachers and pupils the opportunity to gain valuable insight into one of the world’s most beloved characters.

Combining a live performance of Mary Poppins with classroom-based activities before and after the show, this programme explores the themes, history and contemporary relevance of the production - in addition to providing opportunities for extended learning and independent research.

The programme has been designed to enrich the study of a range of subjects and has been mapped to the national curriculum to help achieve core teaching objectives. Both Primary and Secondary programmes are available. Each includes full-colour teacher’s notes with up-to-date curriculum mapping, a range of classroom projects and pupil Activity Sheets.

PRIMARY PACK
Pupils will learn about the life of author P.L. Travers, study family life in Edwardian England, as well as understand the roles of household servants. Other exercises include imaginative writing, an exploration of musical sound effects and an analysis of characters through drama activity. This resource is cross-curricular covering History, Drama and PSHE as well as supporting National Literacy Strategy objectives.

SECONDARY PACK
This pack will give students the opportunity to learn about many different aspects of the production - historical context, what influenced and inspired the author, character development, the affect of musical styles, how invented language is used, understanding stage effects and much more - which then combine to help them to write a considered review of the production. Subjects covered include Drama, English, History, PSHE and Music.
